Gene Hightower

Gene Hightower, age 81, passed away in Spanish Fort, AL on May 17, 2026. He was born in Mobile, AL on June 24, 1944 to Ernest and Annie Hightower.

Mr. Hightower enjoyed a successful career with the railroad before retiring in 2004. He was a longtime member of Jubilee Baptist Church, where he found great joy in playing and listening to Southern gospel and bluegrass music. A true lover of music, he would often say he would rather play music than even eat.

For many years, he and his beloved late wife treasured traveling together and creating lasting memories. Among their favorite destinations were the Great Smoky Mountains, Alaska, and many other beautiful places that reflected their shared love of adventure, laughter, and life together.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ferrolyn Hightower, and son, Wallace E. Hightower, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Anna (Terry) Thompson and Travis (Crystal) Hightower; granddaughter, Tarah (Ryan) Pruitt; sister, Margie McAtee; niece, Kim McAtee; other relatives and many friends.
