William "Bill" James Mair, 81, passed away on October 22, 2023 at the home of his daughter, Daphne Edwards, in the Woodlands, Texas. He died peacefully with his family in attendance. He was a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Coden, AL.
Bill was in the graduation class of 1961 at Fairhope High School in Fairhope, Alabama. He was a 1966 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Sarah K. Godwin Mair; children, Elizabeth Daphne Mair Edwards (Boyd) of the Woodlands, TX, and Brian Alexander Mair (Jessica) of Lucas, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caroline Mair, William "Davis" Mair, Alexandra Edwards, and Mason Edwards. He is further survived by his niece Lynn Witherspoon (Charles) of Foley, AL, and nephews, Tom Watson of Foley, AL, and Davis Watson of Newberry, FL. Finally, he is survived by his grandnephews, Charles Witherspoon (Chelsea) of Lewisville, NC;John Witherspoon (Faith) of Franklin, NC; Alexander Watson of Newberry, FL and Bellamy Watson of Foley, AL, along with his grandnieces, Ashley Wyatt of Foley, AL and Elizabeth Watson of Newberry, FL.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Mair and Margaret Brown Cassidy Mair, formerly of Dumbarton, Scotland. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Brown Mair Watson, and his brothers, Robert Mair and Alexander Mair, Jr. He is further preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John T. Watson and his sister-in-law, Shirley Super Mair, along with a grandnephew, Evan Watson.
Funeral services will be held from the graveside at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619, on November 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM
