Ashby Randolph “Jiggs” Martin Jr. went to join his wife of seventy-two years, Dorothy Leslie Martin, on Friday, June 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Ashby Randolph Martin Sr.; his mother, Dorothy Payton Cothran Agee, and his sister, Beverly Mask. He is survived by his children, Ashby Randolph “Randy” Martin III (Emily), Renee Thompson (John), Michele Statkewicz (Steve) , and his grandchildren, Bryan C. Martin (Shadi), Jennifer Metzger (Ronnie), Ashley Benson, Tracey Zirlott (Herman), Valerie Jackson (Jason), Martin Statkewicz (Kristy), Payton Statkewicz, Colin Statkewicz, Sheldon Statkewicz, and Karalee Statkewicz; 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.; other relatives and friends. Born in Mobile, AL, he was a graduate of Murphy High School where he met his wife. He then became a WWII Staff Sgt. in the Air Force serving in Iwo Jima as a member of the 506th Fighter Group, which was awarded a Presidential Citation along with Ribbons of Honor and Bravery. Back in Mobile, he and his wife opened their homes and hearts in service to God, and he worked for Brookley Air Force Base and Cottage Hill Baptist Church. At the age of eighty-six, he made the second hole-in-one of his life on the seventeenth hole at Heron Lakes. We will always remember his jolly spirit, upbeat attitude, and love of Bluebell Homemade Vanilla ice cream. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him along with his two rescue dogs, Trouble and Cricket. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 10:00 AM in Mobile Memorial Gardens. All attending the graveside service are asked to meet in the parking lot of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Saturday morning by 9:45 AM.
