Betty Buckner

August 26, 1937 — September 1, 2021

On September 1, 2021, Betty Louise Buckner of Mobile, Alabama, age 84, passed away of natural causes. Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Sylvia and Charles; sister, Carol; and one son, Daniel.

She is survived by her children, Fred Moore, Jr. (Jan), Stephen Moore (Alissa), and Lisa Warren (Bryan); grandchildren, Marla Snell (Jason), Fred Moore, III (Courtney), Chase, Christopher, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Presleigh, Hudson and Brooks; and sister, Charlotte Coleman (Mike).

Betty was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1937. Early in her life she lived a short time in Ohio and worked for the Sheriff's Department in Columbus. She later returned home and eventually would work for the Social Security Administration. She served 47 years as a Claims Representative and was proud of her accomplishments in her career as she helped many people in the area.

She volunteered regularly for the youth group at Central Presbyterian Church and enjoyed being a chaperone for many Montreat Youth Conferences. She retired in 2013 and spent her retirement by talking to her sister, enjoying time with friends, family, and her cats.

Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was one of her greatest joys and she spent most of her free time caring for them often, enjoying being a part of their childhood, and loving them unconditionally. Betty was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian in Mobile, Alabama.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Save A Stray, 513 W I-65 Service Rd West, Mobile, AL 36608.
