Elizabeth Mathis

December 12, 1954 — October 15, 2021

On Friday, October 15, Elizabeth Marie Mathis (Taylor) peacefully went to her forever home. She was met at the pearly gates by her parents, Bobby Jack and Ruth Taylor, and her brother Tony Taylor, who all proceeded her in death.

She leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Charles Mathis; three children, Chuck Powe, Angela Marie (Ted) Fisher, and Ellen Rose (Bryan) Arnold; brother, Michael (Rachel) Taylor; sister-in-law, Linda Taylor (widow of Tony.); six grandchildren, Sarah Fisher, Julia Nelson, Britany Loeser, Blake Fisher, Jacob Loeser, and Laney Powe; two great grandchildren, Zachary Spear and Caroline Odom; an aunt, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In her last year, she was fortunate to gain a bonus daughter, Alyssa Kelly, a great caregiver that she loved as one of her own.

Marie enjoyed doing arts and craft shows and was the director of the Alabama Pecan Festival and the Grand Bay Watermelon Festival for many years. She loved painting, cross-stitch, crocheting, and anything she could do with her hands. She was an excellent seamstress and designed and made several Trail Maid dresses and her two daughter's wedding gowns. She also enjoyed Hallmark Christmas movies and could be caught watching them in July.

She loved big and she loved hard. She was a giver and a caregiver. She loved the Lord, her country and her family. If you knew Marie, you knew about her grandkids and what they were doing. You could almost say that her family was her favorite hobby. She volunteered at every opportunity given with her kids and then with her grandkids as well.
She always wanted to spend time with those close to her heart, talk with them or just tell someone about them. She will be missed dearly and daily and never forgotten by all who were blessed enough to have been in her circle.

Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, October 23, 2021 with visitation from 10:00 am until service time at 12:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will follow in Grand Bay Cemetery.
