It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Evelyn Powell, Age 74. She was surrounded by her loving family as she went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 12, 2020.
A lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, Frances was born on May 13, 1946 to Lemmie and Elzeter Gasaway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John W. Powell, Jr., and her grandson, Bradley Powell.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, John Powell, Sr., with whom she celebrated sixty years of marriage in August, her son William (Mary), Debra Powell (daughter-in-law), her grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew) Thomas, John, III (Emily) Powell, Meagan (Keith) Kizer, her great-grandchildren, Reagan and Owen, as well as many other dearly loved family and friends.
Frances worked in accounting and office management until retirement, but first and foremost was a dedicated daughter, mother and wife. Her sons and their families lived next door to her for almost two decades. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by her sons, daughters-in-law, and her grandchildren, and she treasured every moment she shared with them.
She was a woman of unshakable faith, and she guided her family through the love of Christ. She had an adventurous spirit, and she loved to travel, read, and garden. Frances was a source of warmth, laughter, and endless support, and always eager to help anyone in need with her generous and loving spirit.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 2pm from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Tuesday 12noon until service time.
Frances will be laid to rest at Mobile Memorial Gardens cemetery.
