Richard Kennedy

January 7, 1938 — February 10, 2021

On February 10, 2021, surrounded by family, Richard Kennedy, 83, passed away peacefully at his home. He lived a long full life. He had a laugh that would fill a room.  He enjoyed life and lived every day to the fullest. To know him, was to love him.
He was a Mobile business owner for over 50 years. His wrecker company, Richard's Garage and Towing, was the biggest towing company in Mobile in the 80s, and he loved every minute of that. He had a love for wrestling and racing, and in March of 2013, he was inducted into the Lee Fields Racing and Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Richard was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and enjoyed watching games with his family. He also loved horses and was a part of the Sheriff's Posse.
Although many things brought joy to his life, there was no greater joy to him than being married to his precious wife, Mary. He always called her his princess. She was his pride and joy. They were married for over 60 years. When he lost her, his world was forever changed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Dorothy Roberts Kennedy in 2017, his parents Charlie Oneal Kennedy and Mary Octavia Whitehead Kennedy, his sister Louise Kennedy (Wallace) Fincher, his brothers Carlton Oneal Kennedy and Billy Ray (Pam) Kennedy . He has two daughters, Mellanie Kennedy (Paul) Hildesheim and Debbie Lynn Kennedy. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. They were all the light of his life. He also leaves behind his lifelong best friend and sidekick, Frank Cockrell.
Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Travis Johnson, will be held Monday, February 15, 2021 at 12:00, from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday morning from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
