BOYKIN

Steve Boykin passed away at his home on Dog River surrounded by loved ones and a view of the place that he loved the most. A Mobile native, Steve grew up on Venetia Road. After attending Davidson High School, he graduated from Murphy High School. He then went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Mobile, his master's degree from the University of South Alabama, and his educational specialist's degree. He loved fishing, boats, playing with the dog, the beach, and helping others; but most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family and friends. A lifelong educator, Steve started his career as a science teacher and guidance counselor. He enriched the lives of students at Theodore Middle School and Azalea Road Middle School. He eventually became a Career Tech Supervisor for the Mobile County Public School System. He retired from the school system after more than 30 years of service. His love of fishing inspired him to get his captain's license. He was also a state representative for the IGFA. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth and Arlett Boykin; aunt, Mary Hobson; and cousin, Kathy Eckel. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jennifer; son, Ashton; daughter, Mallory; and dog, Levi. He also leaves behind mother-in-law, Dorothy Brown and husband, Dr. Ernest Brown; sister-in-law, Teresa Purcell; brother-in-law, Jerry Purcell; niece, Anna Corley and husband, Chad Corley; nephew, Taylor Purcell; great-nephews Andrew and Owen Corley; his cousins, Don and Susan Wiygul; and second cousins, Stacey Lowe and Courtney Johnson. He will be missed by the many friends, students, and people that he touched throughout his life. As Steve always said, "It's been a great ride." Funeral services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at noon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - noon. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
