Carlita Hendricks

November 13, 1944 — January 13, 2022

Carlita Balzli Hendricks

A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama died suddenly on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Preceded in death by her parents, Louis E and Dorothy (Alidor) Balzli. She attended St. Matthews Catholic School, Bishop Toolen High School (Class of '62) and earned her Activity Directors Certification while employed as an Activity Assistant at Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Home in Mobile.

She was a devoted employee for 30+ years wearing many hats as a front desk receptionist, artist and decorator, bus driver, and especially a loving caregiver to many residents. After retirement, she was a faithful volunteer taking residents to doctor's appointments, and the Chairman of Shuttle Bus for the Lawn Party for 10 years and continued until her untimely death! She was also a member of AJJ (Association Jeanne Jugan) for 8 years; 3 of which she was chairman and she participated in many special events/fundraisers. She was also an honorary member in the Pierrettes Mardi Gras Association. She was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Dominic and Little Flower Catholic Churches. She was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Bereavement Committee, Novena Devotion, alter care, Vacation Bible School, 40 days Right to Life Campaign, and prayer network.

She loved being a mother and Mimi, sharing life and fun with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the years of attending their many sports and special events! There was never a time when she wouldn't drop everything to help out whenever, wherever, and however she was asked or needed!

She loved dancing, singing, gardening, fishing, reading, traveling, and caregiving. After retirement, she fulfilled many things on her bucket list, including a visit to the Vatican, a Mission Trip to El Salvador, snorkeling and ziplining, swimming with dolphins and manta rays, white water rafting, snow tubing, snowmobiling, and attending many girls' trips with her 3 daughters including her most recent trip to Cabo, San Lucas in October.

To know our Mimi was to love her! Her contagious smile, bright personality, and her adventurous spirit will always be remembered, never to be forgotten, and forever cherished.

She is survived by her one and only love of 62 years (58 married), Jimmie Patrick Hendricks, along with her beloved dog Cocoa Henry; and her sister and best friend, Shirley Nelson. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Jamie St. John (Todd), Terrie Joyner (Shannon), and Julie Dismukes (Joe). She was a dedicated grandmother to Curtis Joyner, Justice Dismukes, Kersten Meadows (Chandler), Jayli Dismukes, and Julia Lauren St. John. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many great friends.

On Tuesday, January 18th, the Visitation will begin at 10 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 am at Saint Dominic Catholic Church. Internment at Mobile Memorial Gardens to follow. Memorials can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Dominic Church or Little Flower Church.
