Velma Ruth Claxton Horst journeyed to Heaven’s Gate Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Velma was married to Elmer Kent Horst for 61 years. She fell in love with a blue-eyed Yankee from Pennsylvania. She worked at the Corps of Engineers, Brookley Air Force Base until the base closed, and was a well-known and respected realtor and member of the Gulf Coast Board of Realtors in Mobile, AL for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Kent Horst; her parents, George Garland Claxton and Lora Velma Eubanks Claxton; and a son, Brian Keith Horst. Her survivors include her son, Michael Kent (Debbie) Horst; one daughter, Julie Anne Horst Brannon (Bragg); seven grandchildren, Joshua Caleb, Garrett Michael, Gabrielle Patrice, Grant Daniel, Garland Clayton, Dalton Kent and Luke Dylan, all of whom she loved unconditionally; six siblings, Tom Claxton, Mary Claxton Webster, John Claxton, Rick Claxton, Marty Claxton Wilson (Gordon) and Ann Claxton Parnell; daughter-in-law, Dana Horst; other relatives and friends.
